"News You Can Use" Proposed revamp

Urban Land Institute

Issue:

News You Can Use was a series of newsletters I project managed on behalf of the District Councils team sent to both members and staff of local District Councils (local chapters of ULI). It was outdated in terms of processes and content, resulting in a less than ideal reader experience. The newsletter was a slog to manage, with multiple touch points, shifting deadlines and an archaic approval process.

Goal:

Reimagine the News You Can Use newsletter to better fit the modern times, and to save time actually producting it overall.

Solution:

I worked with the District Councils team to first look at the processes, see how many hours it took and then to look at how stories were processed. We then found a solution that worked better for everyone: we would have "buckets" of stories, instead of random ones thrown in. This enabled the team to focus on specific stories, rather than try to source ones that would never be used.
